A Super Bowl party is not a Super Bowl party without one of two things in my opinion: buffalo wings or guacamole.
I gotcha covered on the guacamole, but I wanted to whip up some healthy real food remixed wings versus the typical deep fried versions we think of when we hear “buffalo wings”.
These little bad boys are 100% real food approved, are paleo-friendly, gluten-free, dairy-free and have been known to put smiles on faces.
Let’s take a look at the recipe, shall we?
Ingredients:
2 packages (about 1.5 lbs) of chicken wings, about 2o total (I used two packages of Smart Chicken organic wings for this particular dish)
Marinade for the wings:
Zest & juice from one orange
Zest & juice from one lime
2 jalapeno peppers, chopped
¼ cup sesame oil
¼ cup coconut aminos
¼ cup maple butter (or raw organic honey)
4 garlic cloves, chopped
Nice big pinch of pink salt & garlic pepper
Optional:
For spicy wings, add 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder and 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
Sesame seeds- you could sprinkle some on at the end before serving your buffalo wings
Kitchen Notes:
If you need to make more wings (30-40), you should be fine on the marinade ingredient amounts above.
Directions:
1. Add your wings and marinade ingredients to a bowl (see above). If you’re using maple butter, it’s thick, so you can add it to a pan on your lowest heat setting for a minute or two to let it melt a bit just as you would thick honey. Once your ingredients are all in the bowl get your hands in there and get friendly with your wings!
2. Cover and place in the fridge for 2 hours minimum, or ideally over night for 8 hours
3. Once the buffalo wings are done marinating, remove from your bowl and place on a baking sheet (like pictured above). I have a little rack I use inside the baking sheet, but you can also just use any baking safe dish as long as they’re laid out (i.e. you don’t want them piled on each other). If you place directly on a baking sheet, add a little coconut oil to grease the pan.
4. Cook at 400 degrees F in oven for 15 minutes. At 15 minute mark, flip them and continue cooking for another 15-20 minutes.
Serve on a platter with your favorite dipping sauce like blue cheese or ranch and voila! Game day wings, Super Bowl football, smiles on faces.. as Jamie Oliver says, happy days!

Enjoy!
Who are you picking for the big game? And what are you cooking up?! I’m a Steelers fan at heart.. and I like Seattle’s defense.. but I think I’m going to stick to the AFC and pick the Broncos for the win tomorrow, 24-20.
Seahawks! Plus I think I might have to make these too 🙂
Can I use pure maple syrup instead of the maple butter? I’ve tried looking for maple butter before but have a hard time finding it.
thanks Jon!
Hi Mary, you could use maple syrup if you want. The maple butter can be hit or miss locally.. I link it up to Amazon in posts usually for anyone to be able to get it anywhere in the world.
Looking good bro!
Thanks!
Go Broncos!!
What a stomping I would have never guessed it
I just stocked up at the store and making these for the game! Go Broncos!
Great Cheryl! How did they turn out?
